What’s ReMarkable?

In early 2024 I decided that I’d had enough. Enough rage, hysteria, and negativity. Enough apocalyptic ruminations, conspiracy theories (from every political persuasion), and forecasts of imminent doom.

And, to be honest, I’ve grown tired of celebrity culture. Does fame and fortune mean someone is wise or thoughtful? No. Yet my newsfeed practically vomits stories of these celebrities telling me of their latest business success (a billion here, a billion there), a Hollywood film, a political victory, a new product they are hustling, or - heaven help me - some pointless detail about their personal life. I get it: they are human. Like the rest of us.

So I decided to swim against the cultural currents. I launched this podcast, ReMarkable!, with this simple premise: talk with people, regular folks, and hear their story. And then help them share their story. What story? Something that energizes us with positivity, something that moves our hearts, something that inspires us to greatness — not measured by celebrity standards — but measured by that ineffable but fundamental universal value: love.

I can hear the product marketing gurus: “But Mark, if you ever want to succeed, you need to fit into a standard industry niche!” I know. But I can’t find the “normal-people-telling-their-stories-of-greatness-or kindness-or perseverance-or love” niche.

So I’m just putting it out there. Kind of a “build it and they will come” strategy.

A Journey of Discovery

And if you, dear reader (or listener), want some of this fresh content for your soul, join me on this journey.

Journey? Yes. I’ve set sail on an adventure to discover these people and their stories. I don’t yet know every person I’ll meet or talk to. Sure, some folks I already know. Some are family or friends. Some are neighbors and live nearby. Others I’ve met in some other context.

But the rest? I’ll meet them in some port of call on this adventure. And I already know that it will be great. Why? Because “normal-people-telling-their-stories-of-greatness-or kindness-or perseverance-or love” are everywhere! And in most cases, no one outside of a family member or friend has ever asked them to tell their unique tale. So, I will. It’s as simple as that.
